MASTERS OF "AMERICAN" HORROR
In honor of the fourth of July, I wanted to take a few minutes to honor a few directors that created/shaped the American horror film industry as we see it today. Starting from the 1930s and ending with the modern horror that we hold dear to our hearts.
Tod Browning
Tod Browning started the cult following of the "vampire" film, and along with His partner in crime Lon Chaney, he created the horror movie genre and the "monsters" that we all love and cherish today. Credits includes "Freaks" (1932), "The Devils Doll" (1936) and most importantly "Dracula" (1931).
Alfred Hitchcock
Even though he was not born nor grew up on American soil, he is widely recognized to be the most influential director in the history of cinema. Today television shows/movies even gives credit to his works, and is influenced my his cinematic style. His works includes "Rear Window" (1954), "Vertigo" (1958), "North by Northwest" (1959), "Psycho" (1960), and "The Birds" (1963).
Wes Craven
Who can not go to sleep thinking of the rhyme "One two Freddy's coming for you.." ?. This man created the man who haunts your dreams and makes you stay up all night. Craven is influential in creating a new identity in pop cultural, and horror films. Even though he didn't start out on the right track in the film industry, creating Freddy Kruegar was the best thing that could have happened in the horror movie industry and his career. His credits includes, " The Last House on the Left" (1972), "The Hills Have Eyes" (1972), and "Nightmare on Elm Street" (1984).
James Wan
When horror movies came to a plateau after the 80s and early 90s, this man came in the industry and showed that scary movies can not only be scary, but they can make you think. Here in the next few months, he has the two most highly anticipated horror films coming out, and in my eyes that makes him a MASTER. This is one director that we will see for a very very long time. His credits includes, "Saw" (2004), "Dead Silence" (2007), "Death Sentence" (2007), "Insidious" (2010), "The Conjuring" (2013), "Insidious 2" (2013).
Film Junkie's top backwoods terror fun!
So we are well into summer now, and everyone is probably going camping, hiking, and maybe riding upon empty roads. Here is a list of my favorite backwoods family that you would never want to encounter!
#10- Dead End
#9- Eden Lake
#8-High Lane (Vertige)
#7- Timber Falls
#6-Motel Hell
#5-The Devils Rejects
#4- Deliverance
#3- Texas Chainsaw Massacre
#2- The Hills Have Eyes
#1-Wrong Turn
list of the most devastating deaths in cinema and television
After an article that I read about televisions most "devastating" deaths. I decided to include my own personal list of what I think is the (5) most devastating deaths in television and film!
honorable mention- Mary Mason (American Mary)
I had to give Mary, from the horror film American Mary, an honorable mention. She is a character who you want to see succeed and who you root for. When she dies at the end of the movie, you feel like a piece of yourself is missing.
#5- JACK DAWSON (Titanic)
I can admit that I saw this movie 5 billion times in the theaters when it came out in 1997. Even today I can't handle the dramatic scene when Jack (Leo Dicaprio) dies. It still brings me to tears."I'll never let go!"
#4- Jay Gastby( The Great Gastby)
Okay Okay.. everyone knows that I am a huge Leo fan, but something about him and dramatic roles gets me every time! Gastby in general is a heart warming character that you want to love! he embodies someone that wants to be happy and live out his dreams. When he gets shot at the end of the movie, you are left with sadness and grief for the loss of someone that just wanted to have a better life.
#3-GRAM GRAM (TRUE BLOOD)
How could you not love this sweet old lady? When Sookie comes home and finds her grandma lying on the floor of her house, it was the most traumatic scene in the series thus far!
#2-JEREMY (The Vampire Diaries)
I know this isn't on everyones list of shows to watch, but this show has been with me for a couple of years now. After trying to find a cure for his sister to become mortal, Jeremy gets killed by the villain Silas. The writers decided to have an hours worth of the characters crying, talking about his decaying body, and finally in the end his sister burning his body along with there childhood home. I couldn't move for a week.
#1- DALE (THE WALKING DEAD)
"The Walking Dead" is one of my favorite television shows. In the end of season two when Dale goes out walking and he succumbs to a walker, I was depressed for days. Dale was my favorite character due to the fact that he was the "grandpa" and the voice of the group. He brought energy to the show, and how can you not miss that bucket hat?! but at least he went out with a bang!
a sleazy SENATOR, smart strippers- director izzy Lee packs the punch with her new short!
What happens when strippers get together and take control of their own destiny against a sleazy Senator? well... you have to find out!! check out the trailer to her up and coming short film and read my review!! http://vimeo.com/65358556
FIRST LOOK AT JURASSIC PARK 4!
Director Colin Trevorrow took to his Twitter account and gave dino-hungry fans the first behind-the-scenes still from Jurassic Park 4! Yea it isn't much.. but it sure looks beautiful! Universal Pictures and Steven Spielberg are ready to re-open the famous park on June 13th, 2014! who is excited to see T-REX again on the silver screen?! ME ME ME!
WHAT ARE YOUR PREDICTIONS FOR SEASON 2?
After last nights episode. I am wondering what season two of The Following is going to look like! Here is what I think... Claire dies and Ryan lives. That would be the best plot assigned since that was the intentions of Joe Caroll and they can't kill off the lead character can they? but how these shows are going, you can never really guess what is up their sleeve. But the main thing is... is Joe is still ALIVE? yes they said that they have his body but again we all know that the killer never dies.
So what are your predictions? it's going to be a long long wait to find out about this "last chapter."

MTV PLOTS "SCREAM" SERIES
When I was checking the movie news today, I saw this little gem show up. After a year, they are finally trying to get this series to debut on MTV. I have been a huge fan of the scream franchise since I was a little girl. But is MTV trying to "be cool" and coping what the other networks are doing? (like with the series Hannibal and Bates Motel) They have a lot to think about when it comes to this series. The fact the MTV is the primary network has me worried. But time will tell! if this series happens, it won't debut until summer 2014! yup, that's right! a year from now.
